With every regular issue of EndoNurse magazine we select an All-Star team. Well, this year, thanks to our sponsor, Medivators, we also have an award for All-Star of the Year. We'll be giving this award annually. The best among the six teams of that year will be chosen, and will receive an education grant from Medivators.
Do you know how your team would spend the money? The winners, the endoscopy team at the Orlando VAMC GI Clinic, had a good time figuring it out. The VAMC team decided to spend the $2,500 education grant to pay for membership fees for SGNA, certification exams, and to pay the course fee for staff to attend their annual state meeting in September.
When the team members found out that they had been chosen as the first-ever winners of the All-Star of the Year Award, it was a "shocking, pleasant surprise," said Leslie McRae-Matthews, MSN, CGRN, a nurse liaison at the clinic.
"It feels good to know that our team has been recognized," she said. "Many of us do our jobs because we enjoy GI and taking care of patients, not necessarily to get recognized. This is a great team of nurses and I know that even if we did not get this recognition, they would be an awesome team."
When asked if she has any advice for other endoscopy teams, McRae-Matthews said that she suggests that endoscopy professionals focus on why they come to work each day.
