ENDO ALL STARS

ENDO ALL STARS CONTINUE TO SHINE

05/01/2002

Grossmont Hospital Endo Suite

Also nominated for Endo All Star status are members of the endoscopy suite at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, Calif. Last April, the staff moved into a new endoscopy suite that features seven procedure rooms. "It was a great move for us because we were able to use an area of the hospital that was underutilized," says Barb Darby, clinical lead nurse. "We now have more and larger rooms, a recovery area, office space and a separate scope cleaning room which we didn't have before -- we had to clean scopes in patients' rooms, which was far from ideal." The team, comprised of 24 nurses, four technicians and two secretaries, handles about 25 endoscopic procedures daily.

When asked why the endoscopy suite members were deserving of EndoNurse All Star status, Denise Jessen, manager of ambulatory care services, says, "They are a can-do group. When we moved to the new suite, the staff came back after they had put in a full workday to get the job done. We couldn't shut down and take a week to move. They had to finish procedures downstairs then move upstairs. I think we worked until 1:30 in the morning to put everything back in place for the next day. They are a credit to the hospital and I am very proud of them."

Cape Canaveral Hospital Honors Endo Suite

Management at the full-service 150-bed Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, Fla., has nominated the endoscopy department as Endo All Stars. Recently all eligible registered nurses of the endo department successfully passed their certification examinations.

Working and studying together, the team helped each other to make sure each member passed the test. The endoscopy department consists of seven RNs, six of whom are now certified. The additional nurse will be eligible next year to sit in for the exam. Additionally, the team has one licensed practical nurse and one GI assist.

Marcus Reynolds, C-AT, manager surgical services says, "This team has proven themselves to be a group of professionals providing outstanding patient care."

Congratulations Cape Canaveral Endoscopy Department! Your teamwork makes you Endo All Stars!

Cape Canaveral is a full-service 150-bed community hospital.
