Anna Jaques Hospital Endo All Stars

02/01/2003

The unique backgrounds of the employees in the endoscopy department at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, Mass., make their team all stars.

Richard Maki, RNC, BA, MHSA and director of perioperative/endoscopy services at the hospital says the department exemplifies the ideal Endo All Star team.

"This vastly talented team is comprised of critical care/endoscopy nurses who also share other roles, including a Massachusetts Nursing Association president, nurse practitioner and a naval veteran -- to briefly highlight their skills," Maki writes. "Their enthusiasm reaches beyond the endoscopy suites as they provide to the community: annual colonoscopy awareness education, BLS training, along with published medical manuscripts geared toward the education of colleagues."

Endoscopy team members include: Susan Budgen, RN, Marsha Froburg, RN, Elizabeth Sigman, RN, Christine Toomey, RN, Erik Carter, endo tech, Andrew Clack, endo tech, Jeanine Cunningham, RN, Judy Misiazek, RN, Eric Todd, RN, John DeCosta, ST and Jean Kelleher, endo tech.

"What remains the true success of the team is their collaborative patient-centered care," Maki says. "They remain passionate about the care they provide and are committed to that goal. They achieve exceptional outcomes though coordinated care. They seek to improve clinical processes while delivering services in a timely fashion in an effort to exceed their patient's expectations."

Nice job, Anna Jaques Endo All Stars!

Hooray for Nebraska Methodist Health System of Omaha All Stars!

The endoscopy team at Nebraska Methodist Health System of Omaha consists of 22 hardworking registered nurses, four licensed practical nurses, three certified nursing assistants and one unit secretary. The team works together in a 420-bed facility.

Crystal Tylene Fry, LPN, says the staff works hard at being efficient and kind.

"Maintaining the highest quality of care for our patients is the No. 1 focus of our lab," she writes. "An average day consists of 32 cases of both inpatients and outpatients with a variety of acuity, ages and various endoscopic procedures. A normal day in our GI Lab consists of long hours, teamwork, determination, quality leadership and excellent customer services. Our team approaches daily tasks with a positive outlook and attitude."

Members of the team include: RNs: Joan Blecha, Jena Carl, Michelle Cascio, Suzanne Czipkes, Marjorie Ehlers, Elizabeth Fairfield, Karla Fuller, Kathy Grabow, Mary Hanna, Robyn Hayes, Dave Kendall, Sue Krause, Sara Matukewicz, Kim Nitz, Jean Owen, Julie Sladky, Lyndel Spurgeon, Annette Sterling, Tonya Underwood, Betty Waechter, Angie Zach, Debbie Zitek; LPNs: Janet Costello, Crystal Fry, Betty Jones, Theresa Roberts; CPNs: Amy Moore, Beverly Rowell, Veronia Storey; and unit secretary Barb Sessions.

Fry says the team focuses on being compassionate and always having a gentle smile for patients.

What more could one ask for from an Endo All Star? Congrats, Nebraska Methodist!
