DuPont engineers have created a new protective material for healthcare worker gowns. The DuPont Suprel material combines polyester and polyethylene that meets industry standards and provides a smooth and silky fabric for healthcare workers.

The material was created with input from nurses at North Carolina State University, who participated in comfort studies. Individuals interested in participating in an in-trail evaluation may contact DuPont Medical Fabrics:

MICRO-SCIENTIFIC INDUSTRIES

Micro-Cide endoscope disinfection and sterilizing solution is a new generation, tamed (99 percent surfactant free) steriliant and disinfectant for use on all flexible endoscopes. Micro-Cide 28 HLD is approved for use in both automatic endoscope reprocessors (AERs) or in manual soaking trays. This new FDA approved formula has a 28-day reuse life. Other formulas require anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours for high-level-disinfection of scopes; Micro-Cide requires only a 25 minute exposure time.

RUBBERMAID

With HIPAA guidelines in effect, officials at Rubbermaid are promoting a new line of containers to keep patient documentation confidential.

The Plaza Confidential Document Container is a 50-gallon capacity storage unit that has a side-mounted hinged door. The container is made of thick, reinforced plastic.

"With fines for HIPAA non-compliance as high as $50,000, with possible jail time, healthcare facility officials and others carrying medical records and sensitive patient information have no choice but to ensure their documentation is safe and secure before destroying it," says senior product manager Jeff Chochinov.
