Peggy J. Peterson, RNC, M Ed, boasts that her ambulatory care nurses offer all-inclusive services to their patients. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Horizon in Greenville, Pa., is located in northwestern Pennsylvania on two campuses.
“Our departments specialize in gastrointestinal (GI) procedures with a very active heartburn treatment center,” Peterson explains. “In addition, we specialize in orthopedic, urologic, pulmonary and minor surgical procedures. We operate five days a week and are on call every Saturday. We also are available for any emergent procedures that need to be completed at any hour of any day at both campuses.”
Registered nurses employed in their departments are both advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certified and pediatric advanced life support (PALS) certified. “Many of the RNs are also bachelor prepared,” she adds. “They are also certified to administer conscious sedation.” The nurses are available any time a need arises, and add patients daily to the already-full schedule.
“Our patient satisfaction is very high and the staff frequently receives accolades from satisfied patients and families. We strive on a daily basis to identify our patients’ many needs and incorporate numerous nursing interventions to meet those needs,” Peterson asserts. Not only that, but patients receive a full education on their procedures. “Our patient teaching information is quite extensive and each patient receives a written copy regarding the procedure that was completed.”
Byrne Medical, Inc., salutes the UPMC Horizon ambulatory care nurses for their hard work and commitment to exemplary patient care. The team will receive a commemorative plaque in celebration of their EndoNurse All-Star recognition.
