STERIS Corporation announces the worldwide availability of its newest vaporized hydrogen peroxide (VHP) solution for the sterile processing department. The Amsco V-PRO 1 sterilizer and its family of accessories and consumables efficiently process high volumes of packaged, heat and moisture-sensitive instruments for terminal sterilization and storage. The VHP sterilization process is not hypersensitive to load contents and positioning, and the cycle includes a pre-conditioning phase that automatically detects and removes excess moisture, which helps to alleviate aborted cycles.
Batrik Medical Manufacturing Inc. announces two new products, one is a two-sided valve cleaning brush (5 mm/11 mm) that eliminates the need for multiple brushes. Although it is designed as a disposable, it can be steam-sterilized. And the Batrik BITE BLOCK is designed to provide safe passage through the patient’s mouth during TEE while also protecting valuable equipment. Batrik will be showcasing its new BITE BLOCK, the two-sided brush, and more than 50 channel cleaning brushes at the annual SGNA show in Salt Lake City.
Sonora Medical Systems, has released the Firefly. The endoscope-testing device is a handheld instrument designed to measure the luminous radiation of standard medical endoscopic light sources, fiberoptic cables and endoscopes. The Firefly consists of an integrating sphere, light meter and various adapters used to interface with endoscopic equipment common in surgical applications.
N.M. Beale Company introduces the PEF Tube, which is used in determining chronic pancreatitis. The PEF Tube is 100 percent latex-free. The entire device is radiopaque. It is sold in a sterile condition for single use only. The double lumen tube is designed to accept a 0.035" hydrophilic guide wire. Using a guide wire, proper placement can be done in as little as five minutes.

Medical Safety Technologies (MST) introduces its new Turtle™ SafeShot Safety Syringe, the only passive, self-sheathing syringe never exposing the needle during the entire injection process. Unlike other solutions currently on the market, the Turtle TM is the only completely passive syringe, meaning that it works automatically. It utilizes a proprietary design to ensure that the needle is never exposed from the moment the syringe is taken from its original packaging, through the injection process and finally to sanitary disposal. The syringe’s patented design includes a hard, shatter-resistant and unbreakable sheath on the outside of the needle, which stays intact. A spring-loaded mechanism keeps the sheath constantly against the medication source or patient, in such a way that the needle is never exposed to the user. It is currently available in 3 cc size.
The Mayo Clinic Scottsdale now offers its "Applying Abdominal Pressure During Colonoscopy" DVD. The course is designed to provide physicians, residents, fellows, RNs, and endoscopy technicians with an educational tool to demonstrate and support the art of applying abdominal pressure during colonoscopy. College of Medicine, Mayo Clinic, is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education to physicians. The College of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 0.5 AMA PRA category 1 credits.
