Florida Prohibits Outpatient Surgeries at Fort Myers Endoscopy Center

02/04/2010

Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration has enforced an emergency moratorium against patients being treated at the Fort Myers Endoscopy Center due to a number of violations that create safety risks for patients.

The NaplesNews.com reports, "the moratorium was issued Jan. 21 and the facility was given 10 days to submit a written plan of corrective action in response to the emergency order. State officials could not immediately say whether the facility has submitted the corrective plan as of yet."

State agency report shows numerous violations were cited on the Jan. 20 inspection of the ambulatory surgery center, including an un-supervised CRNA, and medical equipment that had not been properly inspected since 2008.

State inspectors also found that six procedures were performed with a registered nurse not present as a circulating nurse during the procedures.
