Grants Fund Kidney, Urology Research

08/06/2002

NEW YORK CITY - The Kindey and Urology Foundation of America has given 20 research and clinical fellowships totaling more than $1.3 million to fund future research of kidney and urologic disorders.

Additionally, a young investigator award and a career development award, each totaling $50,000, were granted.

The Foundation is one of the largest sources of philanthropic funding in the United States of kidney and urologic disorder research. There are more than 250,000 Americans who die annually from complications associated with such disorders.

"There is a great need to support innovative scientific research in the fields of nephrology and urology, especially at the basic research stage of investigation," says Ira Greifer, MD, of the Kidney and Urology Foundation and pediatric nephrologist at Montefiore Medical Center, New York City. "At the Kidney and Urology Foundation, we believe we can promote ground-breaking discoveries through our ongoing grants and fellowship programs."
