ASGE Offers Sedation and Monitoring Course in June

OAK BROOK, Ill. -- Registration is now open for the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) Masters Series Course: Sedation and Monitoring, June 13-14, 2008, at the Oak Brook Hills Marriott Resort in Oak Brook, Ill. The course targets practicing gastroenterologists, nurses and other members of the healthcare team involved with endoscopic sedation. It is intended to provide an overview of techniques and considerations in the use of sedation during endoscopic procedures. Topics to be addressed include pre-procedure assessment, intraprocedural monitoring, post-procedure assessment, pharmacology and pharmacokinetics, and airway management. This course will include a focus on team-based healthcare delivery. It is recommended that multiple members of the healthcare team attend the course together. At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to describe current guidelines and practice standards of endoscopic sedation; discuss recent advances in patient monitoring, endoscopic sedation strategies and use of propofol for gastrointestinal procedures; evaluate, communicate and manage intraprocedural complications of endoscopic sedation; and identify the economic and regulatory issues surrounding procedural sedation.
