08/06/2008

Oak Brook, Ill. — Healthcare worker fatigue is known to lower productivity and increase the risk of errors, as well as lead to higher absenteeism, personnel turnover and healthcare costs. In an effort to combat healthcare worker fatigue, Joint Commission Resources (a non-profit affiliate of the Joint Commission) released a book, “Strategies for Addressing Health Care Worker Fatigue” which offers healthcare organizations practical strategies.

The book outlines how important proper rest is for healthcare workers’ safety, the safety of their patients and for an organization’s bottom line. The book also helps readers identify those who are at risk for fatigue and burnout and provides tips on how to prevent burnout and rehabilitate a fatigued healthcare worker.

The book draws upon several case studies and creative solutions that are being used in various organizations. It also covers how changes in shifts and increased overtime affect staff energy levels.

“Strategies for Addressing Health Care Worker Fatigue” is available for $75. To order the book or find out more, call Joint Commission Resources customer service at (877) 223-6866.
