ONTARIO—A do-it-yourself cancer “treatment” that many patients have ordered online can encourage growth in colorectal tumors, according to researchers at the University of Guelph.
The Associated Press reported this week that Dichloroacetate, or DCA, became a potential miracle cure three years ago after researchers at the University of Alberta discovered that it provided a new way to target tumor cells. The white powder had long been available but for other purposes, and hundreds of patients purchased it for self medication despite warnings that it may worsen some types of tumors, such as colon tumors.
